Frequently Asked Questions |
General Questions
- Is OpenTrolley based in Singapore?
Yes, we are based in Singapore. Our company registration no. is 200809204G and we
are registered as OpenTrolley Pte. Ltd. under the Accounting & Corporate Regulatory
Authority (ACRA) Singapore.
- What is the book condition like?
Customers will receive books in mint condition, without dog-ears or damages. Books
are just the way they are after printing.
- Why are your books so cheap?
OpenTrolley is not a full-time book retailer. Rather, we represent a number of reputable
regional and international book distributors and publishers and forward your orders
to these companies, eliminating the need of accumulation of unnecessary inventories.
We are able to negotiate better prices due to purchasing in bulk and our exclusive
deals with some publishing houses. The discount that we get is then passed to our
valued customers.
Shopping Experience
- What does the different stock status mean?
Items can be either In Stock, Restocking or Low Stock. In stock items
are readily available and will be delivered within our normal delivery time. Restocking
items are items that are being restocked or reprinted by our distributors and publishers
respectively and are not available for purchase yet. Once the items are available
from our suppliers, the item status is changed to In Stock and can subsequently
be purchased. Different Restocking items will be ready at different times. Low stock items are items that are in stock but with limited
quantities at the time of our stock update. This means that the items might have
become unavailable at the time of purchase because there is a time interval between
our stock update and customers' time of purchase.
If you purchased a Low Stock item which is actually out-of-stock (low probability
but happens sometimes), we will refund the book price in full.
- Tell me more about Low Stock items
We update stock once a day. Let's say we update at time = 0. At this time, a book which has less than 5 copies in stock
will be tagged as Low Stock. As an example, book A has 1 copy left and is therefore labelled as Low Stock. At time = 1, a customer bought the last copy.
Hence, the book is already out-of-stock but still available for purchase and labelled as Low Stock (since we have not update our stock status). You purchased the same book A at time = 2 successfully
without knowing that the book has already sold out. Hence, the book will not be purchasable and will be refunded back to you by our staff manually after 1 working day.
The next day after we exercise our stock update again, let's say at time = 25, the book status will be updated to reflect its sold-out quantity. After this stock update, book A
will be shown as Restocking or removed from our database temporarily.
Although rare, some unfortunate customers have received refunds due to Low Stock item phenomenon. This is especially true for books with 1 copy left. For books with 4 or 5 copies,
chances are you will be able to purchase it successfully.
In near future, we will indicate the number of copies left to help our customers make better buying decision.
- When will a Restocking book be available?
It can be as early as the next day to as long as 2 weeks. We will introduce an email notification service to
which will allow customers to be informed via email once their desired Restocking books are ready.
- Why some textbooks cost a lot more than sold at
local stores?
We sell US edition textbooks which are relatively more expensive than International
Edition versions. If you are looking for International Editions textbooks used in
tertiary schools, we advise you to purchase them from local universities.
- Why do some bestselling paperbacks cost slightly
more than other bookshops?
This normally applies to extremely popular paperbacks where our prices are slightly
more by about $1 to $2. Most of the time, the version we are selling is 20% bigger
in book size than what you see at normal bookstores. Thus, we are actually still
selling those titles relatively cheaper.
- What happenned if one of my books is cancelled due to the Low-Stock item phenomenon?
We will refund the full amount of that book. If your order only consists of one item that is
out-of-stock, we will refund the entire order amount, including the delivery fee.
