The Golden Thread: A Song for Pete Seeger
Hardcover - English

A stunning picture book biography of the legendary folk musician, labor and civil rights activist, and environmentalist from "New York Times"-bestselling author and Decemberists frontman Meloy and beloved cut-paper artist McClure. Illustrations. ...

With dazzling, lyrical verse in the folk revival style and stunning cut-paper illustrations, Colin Meloy and Nikki McClure pay tribute to Pete Seeger, a visionary who changed the world with song. This nonfiction picture book is an excellent choice to share during homeschooling, in particular for children ages 4 to 6. It's a fun way to learn to read and as a supplement for activity books for children.

Pete Seeger once sang that if he had a golden thread, he would use it to weave people from all over the world to one another. That golden thread, for Pete, was music.

Born into a family of traveling musicians, Pete picked up his first instrument at age seven. From then on, music was his life, whether he was playing banjo for soldiers during World War II, rallying civil rights activists and war protesters with songs such as "We Shall Overcome," "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?," and "If I Had a Hammer," or leading environmental efforts to clean up the Hudson River.

For decades, Pete Seeger's messages of universal understanding and social and environmental justice inspired generations--and have left a lasting legacy.

About Author

Meloy, Colin
Colin Meloy once wrote Ray Bradbury a letter, informing him that he "considered himself an author too." He was ten. Since then, Colin has gone on to be the singer and songwriter for the band the Decemberists, where he channels all of his weird ideas into weird songs. With the Wildwood Chronicles, he is now channeling those ideas into novels.

As a kid, Carson Ellis loved exploring the woods, drawing, and nursing wounded animals back to health. As an adult, little has changed--except she is now the acclaimed illustrator of several books for children, including Lemony Snicket's The Composer Is

McClure, Nikki
Nikki McClure is a self-taught artist who has been making paper-cuts since 1996. As one of the more prominent visual artists involved with Olympia-based record labels K and Kill Rock Stars, as well as the Riot Grrrl movement in the early nineties, her work still embodies the fiercely independent fire that fueled the passion and creativity of that time period. She lives in Olympia, Washington.
